TEAM PENN’S ANTON BERZON (3-1) VS. TEAM EDGAR’S PATRICK WALSH (4-1)
Round 1 – Referee Herb Dean oversees the action. Walsh comes forward with a left hook, overhand right to open the fight. He walks into a body lock from Berzon, who scores a takedown and immediately transitions to the back. Berzon fights to lock in the rear-naked choke and Walsh rolls out and back to his feet. Walsh drops for a takedown and Berzon sprawls. Berzon scrambles around to take the back and gets both hooks in. Berzon is high on the back and Walsh shakes him off as he returns to his feet. Berzon misses with a head kick. Walsh throws and overhand left that’s blocked. Berzon moves forward to clinch and Walsh tosses him through the air with a judo throw. Berzon takes some hard shots upon impact but fights back to his feet. Wild exchanges now between both fighters. Neither man can connect with anything clean. Berzon clinches and Walsh goes for another hip toss but can’t complete it this time. Berzon capitalizes and takes the back but can’t hold the position as Walsh returns to his feet. Little activity on the feet to close the round. Both men are visibly fatigued.
Round 2 – Walsh lands a hard right hook to open the round. Walsh shoots for a single leg takedown and Berzon stuffs it. Walsh presses forward with wild shots and tags Berzon with another right hook. Berzon throws a leg kick that is caught by Walsh and is taken to the ground. Walsh in half-guard throwing punches as Berzon holds on. Berzon finally scrambles out and takes top position. He moves to the back and rolls over for an armbar. Walsh escapes the armbar and Berzon attempts a triangle choke but can’t lock it in. Walsh now back on top throwing punches and elbow from half-guard. The round ends with Walsh on top dominating position.
Round 3 – Berzon opens the round with a jab followed by a straight left. Walsh charges in, picks Berzon up and slams him to the ground in powerful fashion. Walsh moves to mount and is hitting Berzon with some hard shots. Berzon recovers to half-guard but is in a terrible position on the ground. Walsh spends the next three minutes op top trying to advance position and landing a steady pace of ground-and-pound to end the fight.
