It has been over four years and fifty events since Frank Trigg last stepped into the Octagon but he is more than ready to prove he belongs in the UFC as he looks to take out Josh Koscheck at UFC 103.
Sporting a 19-6 record which has seen him vie for the UFC welterweight title twice and take on some tough competition in a number of promotions, the thirty-seven year old wants to finish his career with the most sought after belt strapped around his waist.
It’s exceptional to be back in the UFC; it’s been a long time coming but it is cool to be back, said the 170lbs veteran. It is great to be fighting for one organisation, to know what the protocols are and to be with a promotion that has enough shows to keep me busy, the quality of fighters to get me up and training and the talent to test me in competition.
Whilst Frank has appeared for Sengoku and Strikeforce recently, putting together four straight wins, the UFC is where he sees the best fighters to be and where he feels the best challenges are for him.
The UFC has the best fighters and I want to compete against them. I think it’s a battle between the 205lbs division and the 170lbs guys for which is the most exciting division but it pans out well for me. I want to fight the top ten guys in the world to find out where I am and the UFC offers that.
Training out of Xtreme Couture, Trigg has been working hard in preparation for his AKA opponent.
I feel good. It’s the last week of training so I’m a little sore and beat up but ok. I have been working with Ray Sefo on maintaining my position and my hands, Jay Hieron has been mimicking Koscheck and we’ve worked on wrestling and speed. Shawn Tompkins and Randy Couture have been helping me work out a game plan and different situations so my camp is not too bad.
Josh Koscheck, currently 12-4, is coming off a devastating loss to Paulo Thiago and will more than likely be looking to get back to winning ways with a statement against a respected name.
