In his great western The Unforgiven, Clint Eastwood’s character William Munny explained, “It’s a hell of a thing, killing a man, take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.” Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is like that – everything a person is, their mind, body, and spirit, slowly slips away.

Professional combat sports are littered with the souls of fighters who had no plan B and fought too long. Tito Ortiz retired Saturday night and alluded to having his financial house in order. And he spoke about the future.

Have a normal life, said Ortiz, as transcribed by Steven Marrocco or MMAjunkie. Being a fighter is not a normal life. You’ve got to understand that because we sacrifice so much away from our families, away from our friends.

I think I’m going to enjoy life for a couple of months, and then, I don’t know.

Do I work for the promotion? I’m going to do something MMA, for sure. I will be a part of MMA, 100 percent, I guarantee you.

I have so much in my big head of mine that can give back. And yes, that was a joke toward myself.

Lions always want to fight. know what I wanted to do tonight, and I did it the way I wanted to do it. If they ever need anything from me, I’m here – besides fighting.

Ortiz imagines a wide variety of roles he could play, including starting a promotion that feeds talent to Bellator.

Find other fighters and build superstars, or come on board Bellator and build superstars, he said.

Tomorrow Tito turns 42, and says he looks forward to taking naps in the afternoon. Then he rode off into the night in his Rolls.
