UFC president Dana White, who re-signed Ortiz in July 2009 after a long and public feud, said the fighter is in a must-win situation despite his star power. “Obviously, we’re in the pay-per-view business, but this is a real sport. Tito’s lost three of his four [most recent] fights.” White said.
“Hell no,” Ortiz told MMAjunkie.com. “It don’t matter, man. People are going to watch Tito Ortiz kick ass or people trying to kick my ass. That’s what I do. I entertain. That’s my job.”
“I’m at the press conference the other day, everybody pays attention. On my Twitter, I have over 60,000 fans who follow me who pay attention, millions of fans across the United States who pay attention, and even the world.
“I’ve never been dominated. They could say Chuck Liddell, but that was almost four years ago. They say Machida, but he ran away from me. They ripped me off against Rashad Evans and Forrest Griffin. When I fought Forrest at UFC 106, I thought that was a complete rip-off.
“The judges who were judging that match – hopefully they’re not judging the matches on Saturday night. But I don’t plan on leaving it it in the judges’ hands.”
“I’ve gone through a lot in my career. I’ve said a lot of things, and people have bashed me for it. I have a love-or-hate relationship with everyone, and that’s the way it is. That’s who I am.
“I embrace what the UFC has done for me. I embrace the fact that Dana White has brought me back, and I embrace the fans that support me.”
“II just want to be nice to Matt. I don’t want to hurt him. I’d rather get a submission and get it over quick and cause less injuries.”
