Tito Ortiz gives blood
Tito Ortiz turned out to help raise blood for 11-year-old Mia McPoland, who suffers from Diamond Blackfan anemia, and needs a blood transfusion each month.

Tito Ortiz is doubtless more focused on shedding blood than giving it, but when he heard about 11-year-old Mia McPoland, he decided to help a blood donor drive.
Mia suffers from Diamond Blackfan anemia. The condition prevents the body from producing red blood cells, creating a dependence on donated blood. Diamond Blackfan anemia is so rare only 25 to 30 new cases are diagnosed annually in North America.
The Chandler, Arizona family holds blood drives regularly, and when Mia’s mother Kristi reached out to Tito on Twitter, The People’s Champ decided to show up at a blood drive to help bring out the donors, and raise awareness.
We’re so thankful to everyone who donates blood to keep her alive, said Kristi. Mia is completely blood transfusion-dependent. There is no cure.
While Mia’s life is challenging, she maintains a positive outlook.
My favorite (Bible) verse is the one about the best medicine being a cheerful heart and having hope,” she said. “The best medicine is hope because you always have to hope, even in a hard time.”
