Tito: I don’t have the advantage anywhere
Tito Ortiz: “I really just think it’s an opportunity for me to expose the mistakes that will happen during the fight. I’m not looking for any advantages. He’s a great fighter.”
Bellator MMA’s ‘big tent’ “Dynamite 1” card on Saturday has a light heavyweight title fight with Tito Ortiz, a one-night/four-man #1 contender tournament, and Glory kickboxing and MMA on the same card sometimes at the same time.
Ortiz, 40, is a 4-1 underdog heading into his fight against champion Liam Geary.
Tito agrees.
I don’t have the advantage anywhere, said Ortiz to Ryan McKinnell for Yahoo Sports. I really just think it’s an opportunity for me to expose the mistakes that will happen during the fight. I’m not looking for any advantages. He’s a great fighter.
I could’ve got an easier fight. I could’ve fought someone like Kimbo. Or, like Ken Shamrock. Or Frank Shamrock. But those are gimmes. Why would I want gimmes? I want to fight the best guys in the world, I’ve been doing it my whole career.
McGeary referred to Ortiz as a legend, and said he was honored to fight him, but he also dismissed Tito’s last fight, a split decision over Stephan Bonnar.
It’s not gonna be like two drunken uncles — I’m not gonna let that happen, said McGeary. I watched his last fight, it was like two old uncles at a party, you turn around, and they’re fighting. But they’re not gonna do anything to damage anyone, or no one’s gonna get hurt, so it’s just, ‘Oh, just leave ‘em to it.
