On his latest ‘You’re Welcome! With Chael Sonnen’ podcast, the Gangster from Oregon discussed Tim Kennedy’s outrage over the extended time Yoel Romero spent on the stool between the second and thirds rounds of their fight at UFC 178.
“Tim Kennedy is one cranky and bitter son of a b—–,” began Sonnen, who acknowledged that Kennedy is a war hero, but also suggested it was high time to shut up and move on.
In an exclusive response with MyMMANews.com, Kennedy disagreed.
“Chael is being an ignorant idiot that evidently doesn’t have any idea what he’s talking about. (Except for me being an American hero which totally true. j/k),” wrote Kennedy. “I didn’t walk back to Yoel, Yoel was chasing me down after the fight trying to apologize for cheating. Watch the video. It’s very clear that is exactly what happened. I haven’t said a thing for the past five weeks all I’ve been doing is hunting. But I guess I shouldn’t worry about it. It’s coming from a retired, PED using felon. Maybe he’s trying to promote a fight in Metamoris and if that is the case I will happily choke him out.”
Kennedy, who is doing conditioning work but not yet grappling following surgery on his meniscus Nov. 20, expanded on his remarks in an interview with MMAFighting.
“I’m already running on it. Still doing 14 workouts a week. Tomorrow will be my first day back into grappling and I’ll have a better snapshot of where it is,” said Kennedy. “The problem is I feel better than I probably am.”
“First, Chael is wrong and I could care less. Chael wanted to bring it up again, which is fine. My first assumption is that he’s trying to promote a match with me at Metamoris, which is a horrible decision because I’ll destroy him every which way.
“I think it’s hilarious. Every time I’ve ever met with him we’ve been cordial. It just seems totally out of the blue.”
“For me, it’s just considering the source. He’s a multi-drug test failing, PED user felon so do I really care what he says? I really don’t care, but if he’s trying to promote a match for himself I’m absolutely down and I’ll make fun of him the whole time … then I’ll choke him out.”
“I’d feel bad. Maybe he could start in a dominant position or something. We could talk about the rules later. Start with him on my back with hooks in or something. Something that makes it fair. Maybe I’ll wear an American flag gi and he’ll wear a jumpsuit. Which is fitting.”
“I don’t know when I’m going to come back to MMA, or if I’m going to come back. Chael is definitely a step in the right direction. That I would enjoy. Unless Josh Barnett is down for something because that would be fun, too.”
