Following his defeat at the hands of Matt Mitrione at Saturday’s Ultimate Fight Night 23, heavyweight Tim Hague has been released by the UFC.

The release marks the third time the native of Edmonton, Alberta has been released from the promotion in less than 12 months. Hague was first released from the promotion following a razor thin, controversial decision loss to Chris Tuscherer at UFC 109.

He was then brought back at UFC 113 as a late replacement in a fight against Joey Beltran. He lost another close decision, and was released yet again after the event.

After notching consecutive knockout wins over Ultimate Fighter 10 vet Zak Jensen and UFC/Pride vet Travis Wiuff, he was given another opportunity in the UFC it in the fight with Mitrione. However, after falling to the rapidly rising former NFL defensive lineman, he was yet again given his walking papers.

After being given the pink slip, Hague will take some much deserved time off to heal from injuries.

“After getting released from the UFC again today, I’m gonna take a little break away from MMA, let the brain heal from my concussion, and get the passion/fire back,” Hague said, confirming the release on his Facebook page.

Could a drop to light heavyweight be in the cards? According to Hague, he is pondering with the idea and claims his goal is to get back to the UFC once more.

“I will be back though, I’m only 27, and I will make it back to the UFC,” Hague said.
