Jonathan Di Bella has kickboxing greatness coursing through his veins.
The Canadian-Italian star is preparing to showcase his skills again when he defends the ONE strawweight kickboxing world title against dangerous Aussie-Thai competitor Danial “Mini T” Williams at ONE Fight Night 15 on Prime Video on October 6.
Before Di Bella makes the walk at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, we look at what makes him one of the most talented kickboxers in the world today.
1. He has elite fighting pedigree
Di Bella has almost unparalleled genetics as a second-generation kickboxing world champion.
His father and coach – Angelo Di Bella – was a multiple-time titleholder in the sport. He began training his son at just 2 years old and had him in his first amateur bout at 10.
That pedigree is evident in Di Bella’s skillset, as he possesses picture-perfect technique and lightning speed.
Those attributes were on full display in his epic world title win over Chinese phenom Zhang Peimian at ONE 162.
He walked away with the decision that night after landing the cleaner shots throughout the affair, which included a perfectly timed head kick that sent Zhang to the canvas in the latter stages of the fight.
2. He is an undefeated world champion at 27
Di Bella may only be in his mid-twenties, but he has been competing for a staggering 17 years.
Throughout that period, nobody has been able to solve the riddle and hand him his first loss.
He went 20-0 as an amateur and has amassed a perfect 11-0 slate as a professional while competing in some well-regarded regional promotions.
Having shown that his skills stand up on the global stage in his ONE debut, the unbeaten star will look to turn away the challenge of Williams on October 6 and cement his status as the best strawweight kickboxer on the planet.
3. He has shown his talent in other sports
Di Bella has shown that he has depth in other disciplines, too.
The Team Di Bella representative slotted seamlessly into boxing, and he put together a perfect two-fight run before ONE Championship came calling in 2022.
A champion’s mindset isn’t something that can be taught, and Di Bella showed that he is able to put his focus into another sport and succeed.
With multiple disciplines on offer in ONE, it would be hard to bet against him if he chose to take his talents elsewhere in the world’s largest martial arts organization in search of further gold.
