ONE Fight Night 13 is in the books, and all the talking points leading into the August 4 event have been answered.
But a whole new list of questions have surfaced after another night of thrills and spills at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the most pressing topics fans are discussing after ONE Fight Night 13.
Did we see the ‘Fight of the Year’?
“Reug Reug” Oumar Kane (6-1) and Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida (4-1) went to war in their much-anticipated heavyweight mixed martial arts battle this past weekend.
In a pulsating contest that backed up their respective statures in the ever-growing division, the pair went back and forth for three full rounds of striking and grappling.
Ultimately, it was “Reug Reug” that did more damage, and he was awarded the unanimous decision win over his previously undefeated foe as a result.
But both fighters left it all in the ring, so it’s not surprise that the term “fight of the year” is already being thrown for this riveting bout.
Can anyone beat Mikey Musumeci?
ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci has been utterly dominant in his five-fight ONE Championship run so far.
“Darth Rigatoni” added another big-name scalp to his resume on Friday night when he tapped strawweight MMA king Jarred Brooks with a triangle armbar at the 7:30 mark of the co-main event.
Grapplers from all over the world have been drafted in to face Musumeci, and all have failed to trouble the Brazilian jiu-jitsu sensation.
With his Division I wrestling pedigree to back him up, “The Monkey God” was seen as an entirely different proposition for the American. But, ultimately, Musumeci was too good, so the question remains: Can anyone stop “Darth Rigatoni’s” reign atop the flyweight submission grappling ranks?
Where to for Chingiz Allazov?
ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion Chingiz Allazov cemented his status as the world’s best pound-for-pound kickboxer with a unanimous decision victory over No. 2-ranked contender Marat Grigorian in the ONE Fight Night 13 main event.
“Chinga” banished a ghost from his past with the win, which came 10 years after Grigorian toppled the Azerbaijani-Belarusian star.
Allazov has now essentially cleared out the upper echelon of his division, with wins over the top three contenders under his belt, while fourth-ranked Giorgio Petrosyan hasn’t been seen in competition since 2021.
Many have begun to debate where Allazov should go next, with a possible champion vs. champion battle between him and featherweight muay Thai king Tawanchai PK.Saenchai floated as an idea.
Tawanchai is set to defend his throne against Thai compatriot Super Singha Mawynn in October, but after that, could we possibly see the two best featherweight strikers on the planet stepping into competition against each other?
Only time will tell.
