Teammate: I think Aldo retires after this

Dutch shoot boxer (kickboxing with takedowns) Andy Souwer is a two time K-1 World MAX champion, and one of Jose Aldo’s main sparring partners. In an interview with MMAPlusTV, Souer said he think the title unification fight with Conor McGregor will be UFC featherweight Jose Aldo’s last.

Q: Regardless of win or lose, do you think this is the last time we see Jose Aldo in the Octagon?

Andy Souwer: To be honest, yeah I think – yah yah, I think so.

Q: If he wins, step away on top? I think if we look at everything 

[Souwer nods]

Q: I think if we look at everything that happened with Dana and the UFC… [Souwer nods] and the way they spoke about Aldo. He seemed like a man scorned and a man hurt because he put his life for that organization.

Andy Souwer: Yes. That’s true. So I think he’s done with it. And ready. I will agree. Whatever he is thinking, it’s his decision. But I think it will be good for him.

… Of course (he’s going to win). Jose is (the top) pound-for-pound fighter. He will succeed this time also, and it will be a fairytale story. I’ll put my money on it.

Aldo is just 29, and arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the sport. Walking away from MMA with a win over Conor McGregor would seem unbelievable. Walking away with a loss, particularly a devastating one, would be more understandable, but Aldo thinking he is going to lose seems equally unbelievable.

Or perhaps, it is all a trick to get into Conor McGregor’s head!?
