The inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling World Title will be contested at “ONE Fight Night 14: Stamp vs. Ham” on September 29.
American submission ace Danielle Kelly is set to lock horns with 21-year-old phenom Jessa Khan for ONE’s first-ever women’s submission grappling belt when the world’s largest martial arts organization returns to the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and it promises to be an entertaining affair.
Before it goes down, we wanted to look at the depth of the rapidly growing division. Here’s a breakdown of its major players.
Danielle Kelly
Danielle Kelly has been the face of the women’s atomweight submission grappling ranks since making her promotional debut at ONE X in March 2022.
While she was held to a draw that night by an ultra-tough Mei Yamaguchi, the 27-year-old made a huge splash on return when she scored a swift rear-naked choke submission win over former sambo world champion Mariia Molchanova last November.
Kelly then faced a tough test in Japanese grappler Ayaka Miura at ONE Fight Night 7 this past February, but she overcame a significant size disadvantage to take a unanimous decision over the former ONE women’s strawweight MMA world title challenger.
The win maintained her unbeaten promotional record and made her the obvious choice to be one half of the inaugural world title contest when it was announced.
Jessa Khan
Jessa Khan will be one to watch when she makes the walk for the first time in ONE at ONE Fight Night 14.
The Cambodian-American star achieved her Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt at just 18 years old and is a reigning IBJJF world champion.
Khan will get the chance to add the inaugural ONE women’s atomweight submission grappling world title to her list of accolades when she faces off with Kelly on debut.
And, given the fact that she has previously beaten the American star in competition, the 21-year-old could be poised to light a fire in the division right from the get-go.
Tammi Musumeci
One grappler that will be watching Kelly vs. Khan closely is Tammi Musumeci.
The sister of flyweight submission grappling king Mikey Musumeci is a decorated five-time BJJ world champion who has forged a stellar career in her 10 years as a black belt.
She started her ONE tenure with a bang this year by reeling off two unanimous decision wins in just three months.
Musumeci has campaigned at strawweight up to now, but she has made it clear that she has atomweight in her sights.
