Unlike football as basketball where there are point spreads, MMA fights odds are called moneylines. A moneyline is basically a way for the sportsbooks to even out the betting public.

So for a MMA fight you might see the following odds on a fight…

Chael Sonnen -500

Michael Bisping +350

In this fight, Sonnen would be the favorite and at -500 it means for every $5.00 you bet, you will win $1 if he wins the fight. So if you bet $500 on Sonne and he wins, you’d profit $100.

If Sonnen were to lose though, you’d lose the full $500.

If you were to bet on Bisping at +350, you would would win $3.50 for every $1 you bet. So if you bet $100 on Bisping and he wins the fight, you will profit $350.

If Bisping were to lose the fight, you’d lose your original $100 bet.
