In 1998 Pat Miletich had a fight with Dan Severn. “The Beast” had a weight advantage of 80 pounds, or more. Severn was a UFC superfight champion. There was no one making odds on regional fights then, but they would have been longer than the wingspan of Jon Jones and Stefan Struve holding hands.

Before the fight, Miletich was asked for a prediction. His reply was one for the ages.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “That’s why you have the fight.”

Conor McGregor fights Dennis Siver in the main event of UFC FIght Night 59 on Sunday. Few give him a chance.

But Siver has been there before. At UFC 127 on 2011, Siver fought George Soutiropoulos, in GSots’ home country of Australia. Soutiropoulos was 7-0 and with one more win, a title fight was in the offing. Siver won a unanimous decision. Sotiropoulos never won another fight.

McGregor has had 18 fights. Siver has had 18 fights in the UFC.

I fought Sotiropoulos, and I was in the same position I’m in right now, said Siver through an interpreter to Mike Bohn for MMA Junkie. He was the one being favored by everybody, and he was being promised title shots. I came in and ruined that for him. His career never recovered. I will repeat it on Sunday.

I feel a little bit disappointed that I haven’t got more support for my whole career and position in the fight. But at the end of the day, it’s only going to be good for me. Conor’s got the exposure, and by beating him, I’ll change the trajectory of my career.

He’s using how quickly he’s going to finish me to promote the fight. He’s full of s—, and it’s not going to happen.

We will find out on Sunday.
