Silva steps up to fight Cormier in non-title fight at UFC 200

After TMZ reported that Anderson Silva would be stepping into to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200, the promotion made it official, first via Twitter, then during a press conference.

Earlier tonight TMZ reported they were three potential opponents to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 200: Dan Henderson, Gegard Mousasi, and Anderson Silva.

Now TMZ is reporting that it is confirmed that Anderson will be the man stepping in and will fight Cormier in a non-title fight in the light heavyweight division:

Daniel Cormier has a new opponent for UFC 200 and it’s Anderson Silva … TMZ Sports has confirmed. 

After news broke Wednesday night that Jon Jones failed his drug test and was pulled from the July 9th event, Dana White and company snapped into action and booked Silva to step in and take on Cormier.

They will be fighting as light heavyweights. It will be a 3-round fight, but will NOT be a title fight.

Although no official announcement has been made by the promotion, TMZ claims that their report is confirmed and they have a history of being accurate in mixed martial arts news.
