Silva makes 600/200, Weidman 24/24

MMA Junkies’ Steven Marrocco tweeted the salaries for several UFC 162 fighters, including the main event’s Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman:

•Anderson silva banks $600k show and $200k to win at UFC 162, while Weidman gets $24k/24k.

•Co-mainers: Frankie Edgar ($120k/$120k) and Charles Oliveira ($21k/21K)

However, these official figures do not represent an accurate assessment of each fighter’s income.

Fighters bear significant costs including training expenses, a percentage to management, a percentage to the trainer, insurance, licenses, and taxes.

On the income side, in addition to announced salaries. the UFC characteristically gives out undisclosed “locker room” bonuses. Main event fighters often get points on PPV buys. In addition there are publicly announced ‘of the Night’ bonuses. Sponsorship money can be substantial, although they have dropped markedly over the past couple of years.

Lastly, many fighters earn income from teaching, from appearances, and in many cases from regular employment in the non fighting space.
