Silva hospitalized with low back pain, Diaz fight not in jeopardy
Anderson Silva was hospitalized overnight for severe back back pain following a training session at X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but the fight with Nick Diaz is not in jeopardy.

The MMA arm of the Brazilian media giant Globo is reporting that Anderson Silva was hospitalized overnight on Monday for severe back following a workout, but that the Diaz fight is still on.
Silva was at X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and reportedly fell to the ground in pain, and could not feel his legs. He was placed on a stretcher and transported to the hospital. There he received a CT scan, MRI, and blood tests, which ruled out anything critical. Severe back pain, or lumbago, affects some 40% of the population at some point.
Dr. Márcio Tannure, medical director for Brazil’s regulatory body CABMMA, said that Silva’s training would resume and that the fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan 31 was not in jeopardy.
“He felt a sharp pain because of muscle contraction,” said the doctor. “It hurts a lot, really, but it will not change anything in terms of training. The problem he had caused the pain, but it will not result in a withdrawal or canceling of the fight.”
Let’s hope the doctor is right.
