Silva: Bisping fight good test for title run
Anderson Silva: “It has been a long time since I last fought in London and I’m really excited to come back. I believe it will be a huge test so I can go after a title shot.”
The UFC will return to London on Feb 27 with UFC Fight Night 83, the biggest event ever on UFC Fight Pass. The show will be headlined by Michael Bisping vs. a returning Anderson Silva. Silva turns 41 in April, but in an interview with Brazil’s Combate, the greatest fighter in UFC history says it is the beginning of another title.
“I would love it if the fight were to happen in Brazil,” said Silva, as translated by Lucas Rezende for BE. “But it will be a pleasure to come back and fight Michael Bisping in London, at the O2 Arena.
“It has been a long time since I last fought in London and I’m really excited to come back. I believe it will be a huge test so I can go after a title shot.”
It has been a long time indeed! Silva has not fought in the UK since since beating Tony Fryklund via reverse elbow at Cage Rage on April 22, 2006. That one ended excitingly.
In a testament to his greatness, Silva had been interested in trying the technique. He great trainers at Chute Boxe said it was low percentage, so Silva had his wife hold a sofa cushion at home for him to practice it.
