Shogun Rua’s trainer survives gunshot to head, will fight Nov. 8

After one of his training sessions for his next fight at K-1 MAX, André Dida, along with his brother Maurírio Veio, were getting a ride by one of their students in Canada. When they were getting inside the car a shoot-out took place outside the academy, Dida and one of his students ended up being shot. The bullet scratched behind Dida’s head, opening a cut and needing ten stitches to close it up. In only three days, Dida went back to training for his bout against Hinata on the 8th of November:

“For all of those who roots for me, don’t worry because I am well trained and will give my all to represent Brazil and all of those who roots for me. What happened did not affect my goal, only made me stronger. I thank God for being alive and for letting me continue my path” Dida concluded.

Dida has a 6-5-1 record in MMA and has faced notables including Eddie Alvarez, Gesias “JZ” Calvancante and KJ Noons.
