Bellator’s 115-pound women’s champion Zoila Gurgel (formerly Frausto) recently suffering a torn ACL that scratched her upcoming fight with Carina Damm. A lapse in Gurgel’s health-insurance plan coupled by previous medical bills prompted her to seek outside help, so she is holding an online fundraiser to help pay for her medical treatment. Gurgel, who is married to UFC and Strikeforce vet Jorge Gurgel, hopes to raise $5,000 for the procedure.
The fund raiser proved to be controversial on the UG and Twitter, and now UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin weighs in.

I think the article shows the major difference between the UFC and the others. My back injury happened while I was training but it is a pre-existing injury from football. The UFC offered me “anything I needed” from doctors to money. I am blessed to have three forms of health insurance and a solid financial situation where I do not need the help but I am sure there are countless stories of them going above and beyond for the injured.
The fans should not be expected to foot the bill. You guys do so much already. From helping families of the MMA community that lost loved ones, you guys have raised a lot of money for the charities I have been involved with and you support the orgs and sponsors like no other fans. I have only read the first page of the thread but we should all be emailing Viacom and Bjorn and tell them they have a champion down on her luck and in need some help.
