The third man in the ring at Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor biggest bout in history was Robert Byrd. The California-based boxing ref and judge boxed as an amateur during his military service. He then spent his professional career with the California Highway Patrol and has since retired. The 2006 inductee to the World Boxing Hall of Fame is known for allowing fighters to fight, and not physically inserting himself into the action.

He is married to controversial boxing and MMA judge Adalaide Byrd, who infamously scored Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner at UFC 155 30-27 for Guillard, when every other onlooker including the other two judges had it 30-27 to Varner.

There was some controversy too in Byrd’s officiating at MayMac, with Skip Bayless suggesting that he cost McGregor the bout. On the other hand, Bayless knows nothing about combat sports, and appeared to have drunk 20 or so cups of coffee when he said it, perhaps in a semi-successful attempt to re-enact The Great Cornholio skit from Beavis and Butthead.

Still, our friend DJ Meechy Meech had a secret mic in place during the instructions, and something definitely does not seem right.

So what do you think UG? Bias or none?
