LAS VEGAS – UFC star Sean O’Malley sat down for an extensive and lively interview on the latest episode of “The Pivot Podcast” the day after his UFC 276 bout against Pedro Munhoz ended in a controversial no-contest.
“He was a top-10 guy who I had broken mentally and who was looking for a way out,” O’Malley told the show’s co-hosts and former NFL stars Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor. “The ‘nut shot’ was a body shot. The eye-poke, I didn’t feel like I poked him in the eye. I was patient, I was landing good shots, finding my range and I was about to take over that fight. Then he found the perfect way out.”
O’Malley continued to discuss the ending of Saturday’s fight, which emerged as one of the big stories on a star-studded night for UFC. The contest was meant to be a big-test for the popular rising contender O’Malley, who expressed his disappointment in the end result but also his belief that he was on his way to a career-best victory.
“At the end of the first round going into the second round, with some of those leg kicks that he threw, I feel like I really hurt his feet and his shins,” said O’Malley. “It takes a lot to break someone at that level and I felt I was in the process of breaking him slowly.”
The in-depth conversation touched on numerous topics from O’Malley’s life and career, including his unique style and personality and his early fighting days in Montana. The hosts also do what they do best and push O’Malley to go deep on surprising topics such as O’Malley’s journaling habit, his open marriage and his sex during training camp..
