Schaub: If Ronda’s mom was in Browne’s corner, I’d be $#!^^ing bricks

Brendan Schaub appeared recently on The Joe Rogan Experience, ahead of his fight with Travis Browne at UFC 181 on Saturday. Schaub said that opponent Travis Browne made a mistake leaving the famed Jackson’s MMA to train with Edmond Tarverdyan at the Glendale fight club.

Tarverdyan appeared on Monday’s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, and took sharp exception to the remarks.

“I think he can’t fight for s—,” said Tarverdyan as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMAFighting. “That’s what I think.”

“I pick and choose my fighters, I’ll tell you this much for sure. It’s the way they approach me and the way they speak to me before they really want to be in my gym and train with me. I have heard that he did want to work with me and I said that’s not the way it’s going to be happening. So, stuff like that has happened, so I don’t know if there’s hard feelings or not. It really doesn’t matter at this point. I don’t want to cause any unnecessary drama.”

“I have fighters in the gym. I’m less worried about what he thinks. I’ve got champions in the gym. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 years old and I’ve had my own gym and I’ve been successful with what I’ve been doing.”

The coach said he was not impressed with Schaub’s split decision loss to Andrei Arlovksi at UFC 174 in June.

“I didn’t see anything special,” said Tarverydan. “Nothing really happened to the guy. A heavyweight punching on the ground, you have to do some damage, you know what I mean? There’s other fighters out there in the 135-pound division, even Ronda, when she hits someone on the ground it’s totally different.”

In a Thursday interview with Ariel Helwani, Schaub responded, to Tarverdyan’s implication that Schaub’s comments may have been the result of the fighter wanting to work with with him and being denied.

“That’s absolutely not true,” said Schaub.

Schaub was also asked to respond to Tarveryan saying he can’t fight worth s—.

“I can’t be bothered by it,” said Schaub. “I don’t care. That’s like Kimbo Slice’s jiu-jitsu coach making fun of me.”

“Listen, I don’t know Edmund. He might be the greatest boxing trainer in the world. The credit should be going to Ronda’s mom. If Ronda’s mom was in Travis’s corner, I’d be s—-in bricks right now.

“Ronda’s mom is a beast, man. She’s the one that created this monster, Ronda Rousey, not Edmund. To take credit for that is crazy.”
