Tonight at the UFC on Fuel TV 8 weigh in in Japan, Diego Sanchez missed weight for his lightweight bout versus Takanori Gomi. This was Sanchez’s return to the lightweight divsion, suffering a welterweight loss to Jake Ellenberger in his last trip to the Octagon. Sanchez weighed in at 158 lbs, 2 pounds over the allowance for the lightweight division.

Sanchez had the option to cut the additional weight, but was visibly in rough shape and instead choose to be deducted 20% of his purse. Normally, 10% will go to his opponent an 10% to the commission who is regulating the event. In this case whereas the event is in Japan and the UFC self regulates, it is unsure if the entire 20% will go his opponent or half to Gomi and half to the UFC.

Sanchez made $50,000 to show and $50,000 to win for his last bout, meaning this fine would be $10,000 should he lose and an additional $10,000 if he wins.
