When Cat Zingano defeated Miesha Tate at TUF 17 Finale, she won the opportunity to coach against Ronda Rousey on TUF 18, and fight her for the women’s bantamweight championship. When the odds for Rousey vs. Zingano first opened, in April of 2013, the fight was scheduled for one year ago, and Rousey was a -765 favorite.

However, Zingano suffered a knee injury and personal tragedy, while Rousey continued her run as the most dominant champion in mixed martial arts. When the rematch was announced for UFC 184 on Feb. 28 in Los Angeles, the odds had changed, and Rousey is now a -1,300 favorite.

How Fight Odds Work

Unlike a spread on a football game where one team is getting a certain amount of points (ex. Saints +7), in MMA fights the line on the game is called a money line.

Ronda Rousey (-1,300)

Cat Zingano (+700)

Rousey is the favorite, meaning if you bet $1,300 on her and she wins, you would profit $100. If he were to lose though, you would lose the full $1,300.

If you were to bet on Zingano at +700, if you place $100 on her and she wins the fight, you will profit $700. If Zingano were to lose the fight, you would lose your original $100 bet.

Depending on how people are betting on the fights the odds will shift from the moment they open, right up until the night of the fights.
