Rousey: It would be much different if I was in that elevator with Rice

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was at LAX Thursday, and was asked by a TMZ stringer what would have happened if she was in Janay Palmer’s shoes, on the evening Ray Rice knocked his now wife then fiancée unconscious.

“Should women get in the habit of fighting back, even if they know physically it is a losing battle?” Rousey was asked.

“Wow, that is a loaded question,” replied Rousey, accurately. “I think that every person has the right to be able to defend themselves. Everybody should try, regardless of the situation.”

Then Rousey was asked what would happen if she was in the elevator with Ray Rice?

“It would have been much much different,” replied Rousey. “Much, much different.”

The fighter was recently asked what message she would want to communicate to women around the issue.

“I think you just need to respect yourself, and see what you’re worth, and really know what you’re worth,” said Rousey. “Unfortunately, I think a lot of women undersell themselves. They don’t know how much they really deserve. I know for a fact that that woman deserves more than what she believes.”
