Rousey: I walked away from last fight thinking God hates me
Ronda Rousey: “I remember my last fight, walking away thinking God hates me. I had nothing left in me.”
Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is done with Judo competition, and she’s done too with mixed martial arts. Her journey from the tatame to the Octagon has now entered the WWE’s square ring.
At Wrestlemania 34 on April 8, Rousey and fellow Olympian Kurt Angle will have a mixed tag-team exhibition bout vs. Stephanie McMahon and her husband Triple H. In a recent WWE promo, Rousey candidly discussed her final fight – a KO loss to current champ Amanda Nunes.
I remember my last fight, walking away thinking God hates me, said Rousey, as transcribed by Simon Samano for MMAjunkie. I had nothing left in me. My husband [UFC heavyweight Travis Browne] is amazing, and he really brought me out of some tough times. He would just look at me and say, ‘You’re not only this. You’re more than just a fighter.’ And that’s not a bad thing, that’s not something I should be ashamed of. It’s something I should embrace and showcase to the world, and that’s why I’m here.
I’m not afraid to care anymore. I needed to be miserable then to be truly happy now. It’s all led to this, and I didn’t even realize that I’ve always been on this path.
WrestleMania 34 will take place on April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
