Rousey: I fight best when life is craziest
Ronda Rousey: “That’s the only way I can get away from them, is when I’m in here. It’s kind of weird. The more chaotic everything is outside, the better I do in fights.”

Ronda Rousey’s mother recently put her daughter’s coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, on the mother of all blasts. The pair were asked to respond at a recent 193 media day at Glendale Fighting Club. In a sport that is over fueled by trash talk, their deflecting remarks were admirable.
“It doesn’t matter for me,” said Tarverdyan, as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting. “We have a fight in front of us Nov. 14. That’s all I worry about and I care about at this point. It’s her mom, at the end of the day. And that’s it. I’m a person that’s never spoke negative about anybody’s mom and will never do that. Friendship, anybody. I’ve always said a mom is a mom and that’s it. That’s all I have to say.”
He had only a little more to say.
“It does not matter,” said Tarverdyan later. “Nothing surprises. Nothing is gonna change my opinion, my thoughts. I’m focused on the fight.”
Rousey too had her brief say.
“Any reaction and response I have for my mother, she’s going to hear from me and not a media outlet,” Rousey said.
Next question was whether her mother had heard from her about it yet.
“I really don’t think that’s anybody’s business,” said Rousey, accurately.
Ronda Rousey is a genuine celebrity. That has an effect on humans, and it isn’t always a good one. ‘Rowdy’ moving spoke about how the gym is refuge for her.
“This is the place where I keep my focus and my sanity,” Rousey said. “Whatever kind of crazy things that are happening outside of fighting, it just makes me want to go inside the gym more, because this is really my escape from all that.
“The crazier everything is, the more I want to be in here and the more focused I do get, because it’s the time where I’m entirely in the present and none of those things exist anymore. That’s the only way I can get away from them, is when I’m in here. It’s kind of weird. The more chaotic everything is outside, the better I do in fights. The best performances I’ve ever had, I was in the most emotional turmoil beforehand. This is what I do to be able to fix myself.”
Ronda Rousey fights Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Nov. 14 in Melbourne, Australia.
