Fighting for the first time in the UFC is a tough task for every upcoming fighter, but doing it on five days notice against a top fifteen ranked fighter is even tough. That’s exactly the situation Boston-born fighter Charles Rosa faced at UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Rosa was an impressive 9-0 before entering the Octagon and although he lost a unanimous decision to Siver proved that he belonged in the UFC, battling for three hard rounds to earn the ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus. Siver was also awarded the bonus, $50,000, for his part in the fight.
The other winners were also announced at the post-fight press conference:
Performance of the Night: Max Hollaway
Performance of the Night: Mike Wilkson
Hollaway impressed the UFC brass stopping Akira Corassani in the first round, but it was Wilkinson who made the biggest impression. Wilkinson was returning to the UFC after a year away and was doing so as a 7-1 underdog against tough Swede Niklas Backstrom. Wilkson countered a front kick with an over hand right than put Backstrom unconscious just after the first minute mark of the first round.
