Romero responds to Bisping vs. GSP
“I remember a time in Cuba waiting for food in line at the market. We were only allowed a certain amount each time we went…”

The UFC had a plan. They matched up the top four middleweight contenders, and the winner would get a shot at Michael Bisping. The Count had bypassed the #1 contender in his first title defense, in order the give the fans the fight they really wanted – a rematch of the fight that gave us the best KO in league history. Bisping won, and the contenders were waiting.
#2 Chris Weidman was to fight #4 Yoel Romero at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. #3 Jacare Souza was to fight #1 Luke Rockhold at UFC Fight Night 101 on Nov. 26, 2016, in Melbourne, Australia. Whoever won most spectacularly would get the title shot.
Romero attempted to decapitate Weidman via flying knee, and fans wondered what could possibly top that. Nothing, as it turned out. Rockhold withdrew with a sprained ACL in his knee. So Romero was the #1 contender and the trash talk that began immediately after the knee KO increased and increased.
Then GSP returned and got the middleweight shot, leaving Romero no one knows where exactly. The fighter responded on Twitter, or perhaps you could say more accurately, the fighter’s Twitter responded.
“I remember a time in Cuba waiting for food in line at the market,” it read. “We were only allowed a certain amount each time we went. One day I had just started training wrestling at the Olympic center and a man took my paper and cut in front of me to get the food. That man … I was the right hand of God that day. Not only was I able to eat that day, I ate gooooood. I will have my vengeance soon.”
Mixed martial arts is a crazy sport, and there are any number of scenarios where Romero does not, in fact, get his revenge.
