In recent months, several UFC fighters have been in hot water over jokes they made in the media and in Twitter. Forrest Griffin made a tweet about rape being the new missionary, but in his explanation, he was trying to convey that the topic was hot button in the media and common to talk about it.
Miguel Torres was recently fired from the UFC for a tweet about a rape van and Rashad Evans was admonished for a joke to Phil Davis about the recent trouble’s of Pennsylvania football coach Glen Sandusky.
In his uStream broadcast last night, Joe Rogan discussed the topic a bit and recounted how he had used the term ‘rape-choke’ in discussing the way Wanderlei Silva was holding Keith Jardine around the neck with one hand in their bout at UFC 84.
Rogan revealed that he had been old by UFC President Dana White, that night, that the term was not too be used again. That was the last time the term was uttered on a UFC broadcast.
With the ability of fighters to immediately relay an idea or thought to millions of people across the internet, it’s seems everyone should think more before sending out their 140 characters.
