The main event of UFC on FOX 15 in Newark, New Jersey featured a middleweight bout between Luke Rockhold and Lyoto Machida. Rockhold joined Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Jon Jones in the select group of fghters that have finished ‘The Dragon’ in 28 fights.

Machida landed the first three clean blow of the fight, but little thereafter. Regardless of who was predicted to win, no one predicted a complete domination like this one. One has to wonder of Machida’s last minute weight cut played a role.

Machida’s face was swollen and bloody; his extraordinary spirit appeared broken

Chris Weidman fights Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 on May 23, and the UFC has reportedly secured MSG for a date in December, in the hope that New York state will have ended its ludicrous ban on professional MMA. Rockhold did a little quick predicting, and came up with a plan.

“Look, I did my part. Weidman, you go do your part,” said Rockhold post-fight. “We’ll take this across the way and make history – Madison Square Garden!”

The current #1 contender is Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, but the buzz is on Rockhold right now, and odds are he gets the shot at the winner of the UFC 187 main event. If there is a drop out in that fight – and way stranger things have happened – we could see Rockhold in there even sooner.

Official Result: Luke Rockhold defeated Lyoto Machida by Submission (RNC, Round 2, 2:31)
