Roach: GSP wants McGregor for last fight

When welterweight G.O.A.T. Georges St-Pierre announced his return after taking a break since 2013, he said he was fighting middleweight champion Michael Bisping, and expressed interest in fighting at lightweight. The UFC lightweight champion is Conor McGregor.

GSP’s boxing coach Freddie Roach spoke recently with Fight Hub TV and responded to critcism of GSP vs. Bisping.

That was the fight that was offered to us, through Dana, said Roach, as transcribed by Milan Ordoñez for BE. [He asked] ‘Ro you want him?’ And we all thought about it, and we all said ‘Yes.’

With the last fight, we’re hoping to be McGregor.

Who wouldn’t want that fight? I mean, it’s a big fight. We’d have to maybe cut weight, meet in the middle somewhere, but there’s long negotiations still happen, of course. But, who wouldn’t want that fight?

The Count vs. GSP will likely take place at UFC 123 during International Fight Week in Las Vegas in early July. McGregor’s next contest is likely a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, perhaps in September.
