Former Olympic Judoka Rick Hawn, twice won Bellator tournaments, but was released recently under the league’s new management. However, Titan FC acquired the Mass native, he debust at Titan 32 on Dec. 19 at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass vs. UFC Carlo Prater, at lightweight.
Lowell is a great, great fight town, popularized in the Academy Award winning The Fighter, in which “Irish” Mickey Ward was portrayed by Mark Wahlberg.
Dan Bonnell has the story for Mass-MMA.
Rick Hawn has been waiting in the dark for weeks. Wondering if a camp full of pain, sweat and tears was all worth the effort. Titan FC almost pulled the plug on his fight and searched the local area for anyone that would step up to fight the former Olympian. Only one stepped forward, but at two weight classes his junior, Pedro Gonzalez was just not the right fit.
Enter Carlo Prater.
The Brazilian UFC veteran has over 45 fights at the age of 33. Prater is 1-4 in his last five fights with a short stint in the UFC. The fighter holds a submission win over former UFC Interim champion Carlos Condit.
Hawn is 3-2 in his last five and winless in 2014. Hawn’s best year may have been 2013 where he went 3-1 in Bellator and won the Welterweight tournament and earned a Welterweight title fight.
Titan FC will serve for a new birth for both fighters. Hawn returns home to New England for the first time in four years and will have a big home field advantage when he steps into the cage in Lowell, Mass. A main event worthy fight, Hawn vs Prater will for sure steal the show!
Bonnell also acquired the event roster, noting that it is subject to change:
