Rocky Batolbatol was set to fight Indonesia’s Su Noto at the ONE Championship’s inaugural event in Surabaya, Indonesia on July 29, 2017. Then the event was postponed until a later date due to logistic issues. And in a ghastly turn of events, Batolbatol died in an automobile accident in his hometown of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. He was just 32 years old.

The news came via the Facebook page for Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts.

“In a very sudden and unfortunate turn of events, we are saddened to inform everybody that Rockytune “The Outlaw” Batolbatol passed away last night around 12:30AM due to a vehicular accident, also together in the casualty is Gienar Ponce,” wrote the team. “Let us have a moment of silence in prayer.”

“If you plan to visit and pay respects their body shall have a one night wake at Bollozos Funeral Homes (Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City) tomorrow night (July 24, 2017 – Monday) and shall be brought to their hometowns by Tuesday.”

“There will be a mass tonight at 7:30 p.m. to be presided by FR.NINO ETULLE of immaculate conception parish for the eternal repose of Rockytune “The Outlaw” Batolbatol & Gienar Ponce. “

ABS-CBN reports that Batolbatol and his cousin, Geinar Ponce, were traveling on-foot along Gusa Highway when they were “accidentally bumped” by a taxi being driven by Jerson Bersabal. The taxi driver has been arrested and detained at the Agora Police Station.

The incident happened immediately in front of the Capitol University Medical Hospital, a private hospital, but Batolbatol and Ponce were instead taken to the J.R. Borja public hospital which was reportedly several miles away. Batolbatol and Ponce were both declared dead on arrival.

The UnderGround extends our deepest sympathies to the family, loved ones, friends, and teammates of the deceased.
