Father of three sons, husband, and MMA fighter, Michael Alfaro has died at age 31. The Comcast employee was working on a pole when he suffered an accidental electrocution. He was also a UGer, with the screen name killjoynemesis.

Dan Ivers has the story for NJ.com.

The news came was jarring for Alfaro’s family, especially his wife of four years, Heidi. The couple were expecting a fourth child in August, who would join their three sons, ages 3, 9 and 13.

Though the two older boys were from Heidi’s previous relationship, they shared a father-son bond with Alfaro, according to his brother-in-law, Rich Cuthbertson.

“They called him dad. He was their dad,” he said. “They took to him immediately because he was that kind of guy. You met him and you loved him.”

He had a passion for bodybuilding and mixed martial arts, and won several fighting tournaments in the area years ago. He had shifted his focus more squarely on family in recent years and had taken up paintball along with his sons, Cuthbertson said.

“The thing about him is that nobody that knew him could ever say anything bad about him. He was one of the rare genuine good guys,” said Chris Fuson, a friend.

At least three separate GoFundMe pages have been created in Alfaro’s honor, which together have raised more than $21,000 for his family in the days since his death.

Alfaro’s father and brother are both PSE&G employees, and Cuthbertson said memorial services had been well attended by utility workers for whom his death had hit particularly close to home.

In a statement, Comcast said it had created a special fund for Alfaro’s family through Wells Fargo bank, and was continuing to cooperate with authorities investigating his death.

“All of us at Comcast were deeply saddened by the tragic news of Mike’s death and our employees continue to support his family during this very difficult time,” the company said.
