The UFC has updated their roster of fighters at UFC.com, and 17 names were removed from the list. 14 of those have not been announced. Although no official word has been made, this has in the past proven to be a reliable indicator that the fighter in question has been cut.
Japan’s UFC FIGHTERS iNFO compiled the information.
The fighters apparently released include:
•Lisa Ellis
•Jessica Rakoczy
•Zhang Lipeng
•Luiz Dutra
•Josh Sampo
•Justin Edwards
•Hatsu Hioki
•Ryan Jimmo
•Robbie Peralta
•Wendell Oliveira
•Nolan Ticman
•Dhiego Lima
•Andrew Todhunter
•Bentley Syler
As UFC vets, the fighters are sought after by regional promotions, and if they put together a solid streak against good opposition, will be considered again. However, Ryan Jimmo, who has been a frequent critic of the league, was asked on Twitter if he found out on the Internet.
“Nope, Joe Silva personally called me,” he replied. “Can’t tell you how happy I am to be out of that prison sentence.”
Jimmo lost two in a row, and four of the last six. He did win a Performance of the Night for his last win, a KO of Sean O’Connell in April of 2014.
TUF: China winner Zhang Lipeng lost his last two. The cut would not be unusual, but given the UFC’s desire to break into China, and the paucity of top talent there, he may be as good as it gets.
Andrew Todhunter had the unfortunate distinction of being cut before he ever fought. He was brought in as a last minute replacement vs. Albert Tumenov at UFC 188, but passed out as he was cutting, and an IV had to be administered. Ironically, IVs will be banned post weigh in, starting in October.
Thanks to UGer Chromium for the find!
