Today, Bellator President Bjorn Rebney announced that they had acquired Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral to compete in the 2013 light heavyweight tournament. Sobral, a long-time veteran of mixed martial arts, last competed for One FC, defeating Tatsuya Mizuno by armbar. Before that, Sobral had competed in the Strikeforce promotion.

Great news. Babalu now in the Bellator family. He’ll compete in our 205 tourney on Spike in January. Can’t wait.

Sobral is best known for competing in the UFC 11, where he submitted three straight opponents before losing a world title fight to Chuck Liddell in 2006. Sobral brings a solid name and solid fighter to the Bellator tournament.
