During the UFC 139: Henderson vs. Shogun main event Saturday night, referee Josh Rosenthal warned Hendo and Shogun that round three would be their last. Henderson corrected him, saying there were three more.

The move took on even greater significance as over the first three rounds Henderson won the decision, but after five rounds, things got ambiguous in the eyes of many onlookers including UFC President Dana White, who saw a 10-8 round in the fifth, which would have left the fight a tie.

The five rounds also helped create what many call the best fight in the sport’s history.

General consensus is that five round main events are a must, but that the 10 Point Must system needs work, in this case notably for a clearer definition of what constitutes a 10-8 round.

Below Rosenthal explains on the UG what led to the error.

Thanks for all the support and kind words, i truly appreciate it. As far as the “last Round” comment, my paper work for the fight said 3 rounds, My bad. Funny though when Dan told me 3 more rounds.

It was an true honor to officiate over true legends of our sport. They both showed how great their hearts are.

Thank you
