Ref makes ‘awful’ stoppage in Silva-Dober fight

The referee was watching the submission closely, but it seemed that Drew Dober was protecting himself and about to escape when the referee called an end to the bout.

On the under card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 62 in Brazil, Leondro Silva went for a guillotine finish of Drew Dober. It was an arm-in guillotine choke, which is generally tougher to finish than a traditional guillotine and Dober was defending. The referee was watching the submission closely, but it seemed that Dober was protecting himself and about to escape when the referee called an end to the bout:

Refereeing is a mostly thankless job and when you make a mistake, it is going to be scrutinized. There is no saying whether or not either man would have won the fight had it continued, but the point is that it should have and the fans were robbed of seeing the rest of the fight.
