There was a widespread, lingering suspicion among many MMA devotees that Edmond Tarverdyan was the luckiest trainer in the sport. The belief was that a ferociously dedicated Olympian walked into his gym and that she, not he, was responsible for Ronda Rousey’s unprecedented success.

Then Rousey lost, and the suspicions were given voice. The lastest is UFC lightweight Rafael dos Anjos, who suggests Rousey hop on the 405 South, to Kings’ MMA in Huntington Beach, California.

“I think it would be great for her to come here,” said dos Anjos to David St. Martin for MMA Fighting. “We have a great energy here. Not just because I’m training here, but Master Rafael Cordeiro has over 28 years of experience in MMA. It would be great for Ronda.

“For sure, we’re going to have a great camp for her here. Great training partners. Great coaches. Master Cordeiro is going to have a great fight gameplan for her. If she comes, she’ll have everything she needs to get her belt back.”

“She’s an elite athlete. She’s one of the best. I think she’s the best in the division. She just had a bad day, but Holly Holm, she did great. She did a perfect strategy. She shut all the doors for Ronda. She avoided the takedown. She beat her standing. But I think if Ronda does a longer fight camp, I think it would make a difference.

“Everyone saw that she got tired in the first round. I don’t think training six weeks for a five-round championship fight is going to work.”

Rafael dos Anjos fights Donald Cerrone on Dec. 19 at UFC on Fox 17 in Orlando, Fla.
