UFC on FOX 21 features a main card fight out of central casting.

In the red corner, a model, with her own Reebok contract, coming off a second place finish on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.” And in the blue corner, a bogan.

Wiki: The term bogan is an Australian and New Zealand slang word used to describe a person of lower working-class background, whose speech, clothing, attitude and behavior exemplify values and behavior considered unrefined or unsophisticated.

UFC strawweight Bec Rawlings is a loud, proud, unrepentant bogan.

She can look:

But ‘Rowdy’ Bec looks however she wants to:

By contrast, PVZ is the female Sage Northcutt, more smiling and chipper than Baby Bop and Barney. Both fighters got Reebok contracts, fight contracts, and attention in excess of their skill.

Both VanZant and Northcutt lost recently, but the outcomes were different. Northcutt appeared to tap fast; the hardcore fanbase was not impressed. By contrast, VanZant took a hellacious beating at the hands of Rose Namajunas, before finally being forced to tap in the fifth and final round. The loss endeared her to many, as she hung so tough.

Rawlings expressed amiguous feelings about PVZ during a recent interview with MMAjunkie.

She’s a great personality in this sport, and she’s really gotten a lot of eyeballs on the women’s (strawweight) division, and that’s awesome, said Rawlings . The more people that are tuning in to watch her are going to be more intrigued by our division as a whole. I feel like that’s really cool. Maybe her rankings and, I guess, the opportunity she’s been given in MMA, I feel like she probably didn’t deserve a little bit. But there are reasons why she gets those – she’s so marketable and she’s a bubbly personality that people want to see fight.

I feel like any fan tuning in because they like Paige, they’re going to like a lot of us girls – it’s just getting their attention. I feel like anyone in love with this sport and in love with the bubbly personality of Paige is going to be intrigued by a lot of us girls, because we’re all pretty fun and bubbly, and we probably appeal to a lot of the audience.

However, the great thing about MMA is that looks and personality can get you in the door a little quicker, but if you can’t back it up, you get beat down, and that is Rawling’s intention.

I feel like Paige comes in really wild,” she said. “She’s very green and new in this sport. She doesn’t have a thought process into it. And I feel like if I fight my fight and listen to where my strengths are, she’s going to come in wild and I’m going to chin-check her.

I hit hard. I feel like I’m one of the hardest hitters in the division, and she hasn’t been hit by someone who hits as hard as me. So I feel like I’m going to shock her with my power.

Bec Rawlings fights Paige VanZant on the main card of UFC on FOX 21, also known as UFC on Fox: Maia vs. Condit, also known as UFC Fight Night: Vancouver on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.
