Rankings Update 4.28.14: ‘Rumble’ up nine spots to fifth

With several meaningful bouts at UFC 172, the light-heavyweight division is where we saw the most changes in positioning, including Anthony Johnson’s return.

After each live event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update its rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings. 

With several meaningful bouts at UFC 172, the light-heavyweight division is where we saw the most changes in positioning:

Anthony Johnson made the biggest jump in rankings. When announced that he would return to the UFC in the light heavyweight division, he was immediately ranked fifteenth. Johnson was placed right into the fire at UFC 172, facing Phil Davis who was previously ranked fourth. With the win over Davis, Johnson took fifth in the rankings and Davis moved down three spots with the loss.

With a the moving of Davis down three spots, it made room for Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier to jump up one spot without fighting. The former number two contender Glover Teixeira, who lost to champion Jon Jones at UFC 172, dropped one spot with the loss.
