Despite being victorious at UFC 105 Couture admits the he was not satisfied with his performance and will be looking to obtain a more decisive result this time out as well as putting on an exciting fight for the fans.
“I wasn’t happy with performance, my game plan going in was to grind him down and eventually get top position and pound him out, but he he did a good job in defending the takedown. I know some people didn’t think it was too exciting but I know the hardcore fans of the sport enjoy a good strategic battle. I think going up against Mark [Coleman] is a much better fight, stylistically for me to use my wrestling and put on an entertaining fight for the fans”
Couture also revealed the implications of the bout with the winner possibly securing a place as the number one contender next in line for a title shot.
“From what I’ve been told the winner of this fight could be next in line for the title, though that’s not something that is guaranteed so I really need to come in at my best and make a case for myself.”
