Punk: I’m not trying to follow Lesnar’s footsteps

When Brock Lesnar joined the UFC in 2008, many questioned whether or not he could fight at the sports highest level. Lesnar proved his naysayers wrong and not only competed, but won the UFC heavyweight title in 2008 against Randy Couture and successfully defended it twice.

Also a former WWE champion, CM Punk recently signed with the UFC and although they both wrestled and moved to the UFC, Punk isn’t looking to follow in Lesnar’s footsteps:

I’m a friend of Brock, and what he did is absolutely remarkable; I am in no way trying to follow in his footsteps, Punk said at today’s UFC 182 fan Q&A. I’m not thinking about a title, I’m not thinking about anything past right now training my ass off for that first fight. …Me and Brock Lesnar are two different people. He’s an animal – and I’m a smaller animal.
