In February UFC welterweight Matt Brown got into an argument with Rodrigo Botti, BJJ instructor and co-owner with Brown at Ohio Combat Club in Columbus, Ohio. Botti alleged that Brown assaulted him, and that both Brown and the only witness lied in saying that it was Botti who in fact got physical first.

Botti claims to have told Brown “If I could we would fight til someone die here, I don’t punch not because I don’t have balls but because I can go blind forever.”

In an interview with told Steven Marrocco for MMAjunkie Brown flatly refuted the account.

Yeah, he straight lied, said Brown. Not even wrong, just straight lied with some of the stuff that he said in public.

I don’t want my name out being out there and everybody thinking I’m some violent, crazy, I don’t know, coach beater-upper or whatever. I’ve got to protect my name; I didn’t do nothing wrong.

I think it turned out for the better. I think that coach was bringing things down and being more of a distraction than anything else, so I think it happened for a good reason. Now we’re up here at Strong Style and we’ve got good guys around us all the time.

The city prosecutor has declined to move forward with the case, after reviewing the police report and pictures. Brown said he intends to meet with an attorney to explore his legal options, after he fight Johny Hendricks on March 14 at UFC 185 in Dallas, Texas.
