Poirier UFC 211 fight gloves and kit to be auctioned for hunger charity
Dustin Poirier: “It’s just crazy to think that in this day and age, with so much food and so much stuff being thrown away, that there’s children wondering where their next meal is coming from.”

UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier has spent the past several years in Florida, to train at American Top Team headquarters in Coconut Creek. However, at the UFC 211 media day, he said he is coming home, to Lafayette, Louisiana.
The excellent 2011 documentary Fightville centered on Poirier and others trying to realize the American Dream in southern Louisiana. Poirier’s daughter is now a year old. His wife wants to go back to school. And he wants to pay his city back.

Poirier fights Eddie Alvarez on the UFC 211 FX prelims. He plans to auction off his fight gloves, fight shorts, walkout kit, wraps, etc on EBay. All the proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank, the largest charitable anti-hunger network in South Louisiana.
“one in five homes, there’s children who are in need of help. I grew up on that side of Louisiana. That side of Lafayette. The rough side, you could say – a lot of poverty.
“It’s just crazy to think that in this day and age, with so much food and so much stuff being thrown away, that there’s children wondering where their next meal is coming from. So this is just something I thought would be good to do.”
Yah it is. Details on the auction will be posted as they come available. If you are so inclined, you can make a donation to theSecond Harvest Food Bank right now, too.
