The 2011 documentary Fightville centered on UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier and others trying to realize the American Dream in southern Louisiana. Years ago he moved to Florida, to train at American Top Team headquarters in Coconut Creek.
Poirier’s daughter is now a year old. His wife wants to go back to school. So he is coming home, to Lafayette, Louisiana. And he wants to pay his city back.
He is auctioning off his fight gloves, fight shorts, walkout kit, wraps, etc on EBay. All the proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank, the largest charitable anti-hunger network in South Louisiana.
“one in five homes, there’s children who are in need of help. I grew up on that side of Louisiana. That side of Lafayette. The rough side, you could say – a lot of poverty.
“It’s just crazy to think that in this day and age, with so much food and so much stuff being thrown away, that there’s children wondering where their next meal is coming from. So this is just something I thought would be good to do.”
There was a winning bidder, but the creep backed out, so it is up again!
