The hardcore fanbase did a collective WTF when light heavyweight Phil Davis called out Anderson Silva after beating Glover Teixeira at UFC 179. By the look on his face, so did Silva.

Lately they’ve been calling me ‘The Brazilian Killer,’ but I really don’t like that, said Davis in the Octagon. I have beat a lot of Brazilians and there’s one Brazilian guy I’d like to face, and that’s Anderson Silva.

Silva hasn’t fought since the horrific leg break in 2013, and is fighting Nick Diaz early in 2015. Diaz is coming up a division for the challenge. Diaz fought BJ Penn just three fights ago. At the post-fight press conference, Davis explained.

He’s an awesome fighter, probably one of the best to ever compete in the UFC, so why not? he said. All the questions during the media day were centered around being ‘The Brazilian Killer.’ I don’t know if I’d call myself a killer, but at the same time, that would complete my trifecta of Brazilian fighters.

Davis previously beat Rogerio Nogueira and Silva’s Blackhouse teammate Lyoto Machida.
