Later this year, Ultimate Fighter Two competitor and Kimbo Slice beater Seth ‘The Silverback’ Petruzelli will fight MMA legend Ken Shamrock. He caught up with MMA Unltd to tell all about this fight.
“The fight is on March 6th in Cancun, Mexico, and it will be for the IUF promotion,” explained Petruzelli. “In the US, it will be live on PPV and anyone with satellite can get it, so check your TV schedules!”
Despite many thinking that Shamrock is past his prime, Petruzelli still sees him as a big threat. “I think he’s a pretty significant threat,” admitted ‘The Silverback’. “If he’s ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ as his nickname suggests, than he has to be the toughest guy in the world. No-one is more dangerous.”
Even though Seth is evidently wary of what a seasoned veteran like Shamrock can do, he is still very confident the outcome will favour him. He simply declared, “There will be a KO in the first or second round; by me of course!”
In his last outing, on the 22nd August ’09 on the ‘Art of Fighting 4: Damage’ show, Petruzelli beat the unheralded, albeit tough Chris Baten. On that one, he beamed, “I was definitely happy with my performance. Any fight that ends in the first round, so I don’t have to go longer than five minutes, is a good fight for me!”
Perhaps what Petruzelli is best known for is his fourteen second knockout of YouTube street fighting sensation cum Ultimate Fighter star Kevin ‘Kimbo Slice’ Ferguson. Ironically though, it is Ferguson that has ended up with the UFC contract, whilst Petruzelli has found himself on small hall shows. So would Petruzelli relish the challenge of another ‘Kimbo’ encounter?
“If it comes about for sure, I would love that fight,” Seth claimed. “Let’s see who the UFC feeds him to build his name up like EliteXC did. Then, when he’s on top again, maybe the UFC will give me another shot and I’ll do the same damn thing to him!”
Surely, for a fighter with the name recognition and winning record of Petruzelli, a return to the UFC or a move to Strikeforce must be on the agenda? Seth revealed,
“Both organisations have been in touch and have told my manager that they are currently keeping me in mind for another fight. To be honest though, I enjoy making the money I do for these other organisations. At the minute, I don’t think UFC and Strikeforce will pay me as much as I’m worth right now. After I KO Shamrock though, maybe it will change.”
